LAGV sponsors the extremely popular “Les Dimanches Musicaux” (Music on Sundays), a free entrance concert series created to showcase and promote young talent.
“Les Dimanches Musicaux” take place on most Sundays throughout the year from September to November and from January to June. Concerts begin at 15H00 and last for approximately 50 minutes.
Musicians who successfully apply for participating in “Les Dimanches Musicaux” are entitled to perform in the nave of the Cathedral free of charge. In a very competitive and increasingly tentative world, LAGV is pleased and proud to be able provide this service to aspiring as well as confirmed artists. LAGV also sees “Les Dimanches Musicaux” concert series as a way of inviting the Parisian community into the Cathedral, thus fulfilling one of LAGV’s main goals which is to make the music programs at the Cathedral better known to the Parisian public. Although entry is free, donations are gratefully accepted at the end of the performances.
A prescreening process is used to select appropriate groups and to ensure the quality of the performances.
The LAGV Cabaret Night is one of our annual highlights, featuring works by such great American composers as Harold Arlen, Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein, Lorenz Hart and Cole Porter, to name but a few. Cabaret Night is staged and arranged by Mark Carroll who engages soloists and talented amateurs from the Cathedral Choir and other Parisian musical groups (including the Paris Opera) for the show. A lively and entertaining evening of song and schmaltz is guaranteed and the modest ticket price also includes food and drink. Cabaret Night is definitely an event not to be missed!
LAGV has also recently co-produced several Gilbert and Sullivan operetta evenings. The first production consisted of a medley of songs from the three most important Gilbert and Sullivan operettas: The Mikado, Pirates of Penzance and H.M.S. Pinafore. The second event was a production of The Mikado in its entirety. Both performances were hugely successful and LAGV intends to continue with more opera productions. In 2014, Ahmal and the The Night Visitors, an opera by Gian Carlo Menotti, was added to the LAGV Productions.
In a non-musical vein, LAGV also participates in organizing the Cathedral Art Fair which allows amateur painters, sculptors and photographers to display their works. Contact Peggy Paul-Cavalier for information about exhibiting at .
Hosted events offer varied programs from outside individuals or groups that range from Gospel singers to visiting American choirs. Events are hosted in one of the two venues managed by LAGV: the Cathedral or the Parish Hall.
The American Cathedral Choir is a world class choir made up of professional and rigorously selected amateur singers.
In addition to singing at the Sunday services at the American Cathedral in Paris the Cathedral Choir sings at special services, such as the very popular "Nine Lessons and Carols" in December just prior to Christmas.
The Cathedral Choir also gives concert performances of major choral works.
