Pianist Mathilde Handelsman plays works by Beethoven, Ravel and Debussy.
Recognized for her imaginative, unusual, and refined interpretations, French pianist Mathilde Handelsman has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe and the United States. Recent festival performances include the Tanglewood Music Center, Sarasota Music Festival, Wissembourg International Music Festival, and Pianofest in the Hamptons. Her début solo album devoted to Claude Debussy, “Images,” was released for Sheva Collection in 2020.
Mathilde was born in Paris to a family of musicians. Her principal teachers are Menahem Pressler, Laurent Cabasso, and John O’Conor. After graduating “Magna cum laude” from the Académie Supérieure de Musique de Strasbourg, Mathilde furthered her studies at the Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University-Bloomington. In the spring of 2020, she graduated as a Doctor of Musical Arts at Shenandoah University on a full-tuition scholarship and stipend.
Since 2020, Mathilde serves as Resident Artist in Piano and principal keyboard faculty at the University of New Hampshire.
