Oakham School Chamber Choir
There is an exceptionally strong choral tradition at Oakham School, and the Chamber Choir is the top, auditioned ensemble of the School’s four choirs. Many of its members hold music scholarships at the School, with a number having previously been choristers at many of the UK’s country’s cathedrals. It maintains an active performance schedule both within the School, and in prestigious external venues. Its 2022-23 season has seen the choir give its annual performance in London’s Brandenburg Choral Festival and sing in Peterborough Cathedral, and it has given collaborative performances with choral scholars from Royal Holloway and with West End stars Katie Hall and Earl Carpenter.
Peter Davis (Director of Music/conductor) holds a first-class degree in Music from Cambridge University, where he spent three years as organ scholar with St John’s College’s renowned Chapel Choir. As a former chorister and organ scholar at Salisbury Cathedral, one of his principal passions is the continuing development of Oakham’s vibrant vocal tradition through his direction of the Chapel, Chamber and Lower School Choirs. He directs an ambitious programme with the school’s Symphony Orchestra, mentors the school’s Music Scholars, and specialises in the teaching of composition. He is committed to engaging as many pupils as possible in school music, both as performers and within the curriculum.
Nicholas Tall (Graduate Organist/accompanist) was educated at the Royal Academy of Music from 2018 to 2022, where he won the 2020 Dorothy Cooper Organ Competition. He is currently studying under Daniel Moult at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He also holds the position of Assistant Director of Music at St Michael & All Angels’, Croydon where he accompanies the choir in a wide range of repertoire from Bach to Britten. Nicholas has previously held positions at St Mark’s, Hamilton Terrace, St Mary’s, Bourne Street, and Wells Cathedral.
